Over the years I have had a few opportunities to photograph rocket launches and a few airshows. This level of photography takes some special gear and tech to pull off the right shot. Of course getting credentials and permissions takes some work but for me this has been one of the highlights of my life, especially those times at NASA - unforgettable and will cherish these times forever.
Astrophotography has long been one of my most dedicated interests, starting in the 80's shooting hand held through a cheap telescope, into the 90's with film and manually tracking deep sky objects, into the early 2000's with my introduction into CCD camera technologies, and finally into the more recent days of full data acquisition and automation. The technology required to acquired and process these images in quite complex. I have been very privileged to personally know many of the great astrophotographers in the world. Today I am not spending as much time in this medium but I still enjoy seeing the works of all those amatuers out there, some incredible photography being done these days.
